I was browsing news from landlords in the Midlands when I came upon a disturbing article written by a landlord who was scammed by a rogue letting agent to the tune of thousands of pounds. The landlord who has in the region of 50-60 properties was having each of them skimmed, the agent was not paying him the full rent owed. The agent probably thought that by doing it to a man with such a large portfolio he wouldn’t notice a few pounds missing here and there (Unfortunately for them he did) In the end the landlord did get his money back but it might not have gone so well for him if the agent hadn’t had the cash to cover the missing sums the landlord was owed!
Many landlords who are busy with other things might not have noticed this, especially as the agent wasn’t providing this particular landlord with emailed statements (Which as a matter of course we do) It was only when the landlord did the maths himself he noticed missing monies. It just goes to show, whether it’s one property you own or one hundred, an agent who prides themselves on their service and honesty could perhaps save you a lot of stress like this.
